Transformation of building is not possible in a dogmatic way of financing, application of traditional technique and strict design method. Property owners, builders and designers needs a different attitude. Not value in the short term, but the long-term value is decisive. Not a building system is the starting point, but the existing building dictates the construction method. Architects must release the modernist adage: form follows function is now (possible) functions follows form.

Planning processes are becoming increasingly complex. Space is limited, the number of parties and interests, is potentially important. The role of urban design is therefore subject to change. The goals of this project for the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture was to create a new position for a designer within this process.

My article Slow Colours is placed in a very complete work on a vast subject: colour. Colour plays an important role in almost every aspect of our daily lives. From the moment we wake until we go back to bed colour makes, consciously or unconsciously, an integral part of our lives and our environment.

The publication includes contributions by renowned experts from various disciplines such as Lidewij Edelkoort, Akiko Fukai, Rem Koolhaas, Gert Staal and many others.

The book was made in coloboration with the Sikkens Foundation and is beautifull by Irma Boom.

The English version of book is available by: Terra Lannoo
