Rooftop Souper

Yesterday we -as organizers men of the monthly Soupers- where guest at a very special Souper. Two former guests invited us to dinner at a high level.

Steven Manhave and Lèon van Geest were our guests at Souper # 65, the last Monday in June 2015. They met each other during this dinner and have kept in touch with each other. Lèon, as organizers of the Rotterdam Rooftop Days and Steven, the owner of a number of high roofs in the city, found each other in the use of real estate in a special way. They wanted to show us their good cooperation.

We were received at the roof of the City Flat at the Kruiskade. The building was designed by Maaskant and the client was the grandfather of Steven. Manhave is still owner of the houses, shops and offices in the building. With delicious appetizers and a glass of white wine we looked out over the city. We saw in particular how green the city is.

The main course was on the green roof of the Thornico Building at the Blaak. A beautifully set table we ate the delicious burgers Ter March and some other things with a glass of red wine. Another roof in the same city gives a completely new image. From the Thornico building we saw in particular how compact the city is.

When all the food and all the wine were over we unfortunately had to returning to the city's ground level. Unwillingly we returned to earth. Ice cream for dessert at De IJssalon at Witte de Withstraat softened our goodbye of the skyline.

The evening sun was picturesque. There was not a breath of wind. The food and drinks were delicious. The company was good. The endless stories about the city and about life in the city were beautiful. It was a memorable evening in Rotterdam!

Daan Bakker (Daf-architecten), Jeroen de Willigen (DeZwarteHond), Jasper de Haan (architect) and I invite each month a number of colleagues to eat, drink and discuss about our profession, the city of Rotterdam and related matters. See guest list
