Wytze Patijn (architect & city architect Delft) and Nils Berndsen (Councillor D66 Rotterdam) were Monday 28 april our guests. Wytze has a huge amount of experience in public functions that are related to architecture urbanism. Nils was for the district North active but now continues his career as Councillor on the Coolsingel. Spatial development belongs to his knowledge area and perhaps he becomes Alderman of the city after negotiations for the new Town Council.
The urban development and the position of designers was the theme of the evening. The men talked about the political game and the power and impotencein civil service in the city. Wyzte came up with inspiring example from the past that are valuable for the future. Nils told with an infectious enthusiasm about possible developments in the city without radical interventions, based on the existing context. Administrative and spatial topics changing each other. Sometimes were topics discussed as professions. Sometimes we where emotional inhabitant of Rotterdam. The city has future with old knowledge and new politicians.
I have used all the superlatives for restaurant Huson. But it was again really very delicious.
Daan Bakker (Daf-architecten), Jeroen de Willigen (DeZwarteHond), Jasper de Haan (architect) and I invite each month a number of colleagues to eat, drink and discuss about our profession, the city of Rotterdam and related matters.
